Toronto, ONJune 22, 2022 – , a leading Digital Care Journey platform for hospitals and health systems, today announced the expansion of its support for Urology with the launch of its Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (TURBT) care plan. The TURBT surgical care pathway includes pre-op and post-op instructions that inform and digitally guide patients throughout their episode of care. Patients undergoing TURBT procedures access the digital care plan on their own smartphone, tablet or computer and are self-guided via reminders, education, health checks, and progress tracking while providers receive alerts, monitor patients and access analytics to deliver better care.

The program provides specific education on the importance of drinking water to help the patient recover and avoid common urinary problems. It also includes a water tracker that allows patients to record and visually see how much water they are consuming daily and the built-in post-op health check prompts patients to monitor for warning signs  that would indicate a serious problem like a clot retention or UTI and makes appropriate recommendations for what the patient should do. Also included are a range of precautions for the patient to follow as they return to daily life to minimize the risk of complications, ED visits, readmissions, and phone calls to providers.

“Through the ɫֱ Digital Care Journey platform patients undergoing TURBT surgery receive automated activity reminders as well as educational prompts that provide them with personalized, timely education that supports the prevention of post-operative problems associated with TURBT allowing for early detection and timely intervention reducing the need for ER visits and readmissions. With the remote monitoring capabilities we are able to assess the patient’s symptom burden and recovery trajectory,” said Chantal Gagné, Director of Surgery and Inpatient Services, North Bay Regional Health Centre. “We consistently hear from patients that access to the platform helps reduce their anxiety as they feel informed and educated about what to expect and for us as providers it has proven to reduce length of stay, readmissions, and ED visits.”

In 2023, an estimated 82,290 adults (62,420 men and 19,870 women) in the United States will be diagnosed with bladder cancer according to Cancer.Net and according to Bladder Cancer Canada,12,000 Canadians are diagnosed each year.
